Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the FAQs section! Here, are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about learning to play the guitar.

Are there different ways to play the same chord on guitar?

Yes, there are several ways to play the same chord on guitar. This is because the guitar has multiple ways to play the same note, and different chord shapes can be used to play the same chord.

Which chord shape you choose is totally your choice. Guitarists usually have their preferences, depending on the context. For example some voicings may sound better than others in certain styles of music.

I prefer to use my fingers to strum rather than a pick, is this ok?

Yes, this is totally ok. It is worth noting though that there is a sound difference between playing with your fingers versus playing with a pick. Generally, fingers will create a soft mellow tone compared to a pick, which is more capable of projecting and producing a more bright tone. Ideally, learning how to do both will allow you to cover a whole range of different playing styles and also a greater variety of guitar tones. It is best to start with what feels more comfortable at first.
